Appraisal reviews "should verify whether the appraisal or evaluation is well-suited for the transaction, the risk of the transaction, and whether the actions by which the collateral valuation is acquired guarantees independence and quality," the Federal Reserve says. They "must also signify whether the appraisal or evaluation report is compatible with the engagement letter, which sets forth the range of the appraisal assignment." Lastly, the Federal Reserve says that "some banks supplement periodic reviews with post-funding assessments of appraisal quality for some of their high-risk or high-value contracts as a channel to help in exposing valuation problems."
